Full-stack developer building reliable web products.

I'm Joseph — I design and ship end-to-end applications, from the data model up to the last pixel. I care about clarity, performance, and code that ages well.

Selected work

A few things I've designed, built, and shipped.

Each project below is something I owned end-to-end — problem framing, architecture, and delivery.

KuryenteWatch

A live, community-sourced electricity-status map for Infanta, Quezon. Volunteer scouts report barangay-level outages while residents watch a real-time map and subscribe to per-barangay push alerts — a Rails 8 Hotwire PWA with an all-database real-time stack and no Redis.

Aqualytix

A water-quality monitoring platform that digitizes a local water district's manual pumping-station logs — offline-first field capture, per-station alert thresholds, trend charts, and generated PDF reports. Deployed to AWS with Kamal and CloudWatch alerting.

Payout na po ba?

A voice-of-customer analytics pipeline that scraped and NLP-coded 55,000+ public comments from LANDBANK's 4Ps beneficiaries to pinpoint their #1 pain point — payout timing — then packaged the evidence into a board-ready recommendation. Built in Node.js with a custom lexicon coder for Taglish and Bisaya text.

Backend Developer

DOST-ASTI · On-site · Advanced Science and Technology Institute

Backend developer on the institute's platforms, improving reliability and test coverage as the containerized stack migrated from an on-premise server to AWS.

  • Initiated unit testing, taking code coverage from 0 to ~90%, and optimized database queries through in-depth root-cause analysis.
  • Managed Dockerized services — first on an on-premise Ubuntu server, then on AWS after migration, orchestrating containers there with Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS).
  • Built an automated pipeline for building the inference-service, AI-training, and dataset-validation containers: source in S3, builds in CodeBuild, images in ECR.
  • Automated infrastructure provisioning for the core service with AWS CloudFormation, enabling fast, repeatable deployments.
  • Integrated AWS data services — RDS (core database), ElastiCache/Redis (caching), and Amazon MQ (message broker) — and ran smoke and load tests with Grafana K6.

About

I build software the way I'd want to use it — clear, fast, and honest about its edges.

My work sits at the intersection of engineering and design. I like problems that need both a solid data model and a considered interface, and I care as much about the quiet details — empty states, loading, error copy — as the headline features.

When I'm not building, I'm usually reading about systems design, refining my own tools, or exploring on foot.
